The Manchester City manager was clearly happy with the win and performance. He has said that the wider range of goalscorers at City is very impressive and gives them a platform to have another successful season.

He added on City's social media accounts: "Yeah, excellent performance. After an international break you always have doubts, but the mentality from the players from the first minute to the end was excellent."

Cristiano Ronaldo played his first game in the red of Manchester United since May 2009 and helped his side to a 4-1 win over Newcastle United

Ronaldo was cheered from the moment he left the team bus on its arrival Old Trafford throughout the warm-up and then once the game had started, Ronaldo repaid the backing in the best way.

Ronaldo broke the deadlock just before half-time when he scored from a few yards after Newcastle keeper Freddie Woodman spilled Mason Greenwood's shot.

The Geordies had briefly threatened to spoil the party after Saint-Maximin equalised. A second goal from Ronaldo alongside strikes from Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard saw United home comfortably.

Tottenham winning run comes to a sudden end away at Crystal Palace

Former Celtic strike Odsonne Edouard scored two goals on his debut as Crystal Palace claimed their first win of the season to end Tottenham's 100% Premier League start.

Wilfried Zaha set the Eagles on their way, rolling in from the spot after Ben Davies was penalised for handball, before substitute Edouard added a second and third late on.

Lukaku impresses again for Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku scored his first ever goals at Stamford Bridge either side of a Mateo Kovacic strike as Chelsea comfortably maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

The Belgian striker was in superb and told a variety of media outlets: "It's a good start but we have to keep working. We know this year's going to be very competitive. A lot of teams are going to be fighting for the title."
