Pre-Season: Hibernian 2 - 1 Arsenal

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side lost their pre-season opener at Easter Road

Goals from Martin Boyle and Daniel Mackay gave hosts advantage; Nicolas Pepe had late penalty saved before Emile Smith Rowe grabbed late consolation; Arsenal's pre-season continues at Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

You can watch the highlights below.

With much of the focus on fitness,  Arsenal started brightly enough and had a golden chance when Eddie Nketiah raced clean through on goal – only for the striker to shoot wide.

Out of nowhere, they gifted Hibs the lead when Arthur Okonkwo failed to deal with a tricky backpass from Cedric, and Martin Boyle had the simple task of collecting the loose ball and rolling it in from close range.

In the second half, Arsenal were hit by another suckerpunch when a deep corner swung in from the right was headed back across goal by Paul Hanlon, and Daniel Mackay headed in from close range to give the home side a 2-0 lead.

The Gunners gor a consolation with seven minutes remaining. At the end of an intricate passing move, Hector Bellerin picked out Smith Rowe at the back post and he fired in.

Arsenal fans reaction

One Arsenal fan wasn't very happy and was looking nervously towards the new Amazon Prime series: "The Arsenal Amazon Documentary should be renamed ’All For Nothing'.

Another fan was equally pessimistic: "Conceding comical goals, Eddie Nketiah missing a sitter, Willian chugging around pointlessly - Arsenal are back, baby!"

Hibs reaction

The 2016 Scottish Cup Winners are now looking towards the start of their Europa Conference League campaign. What exactly is the UEFA Europa Conference League?

They were clearly happy to see this player back in action. Hibs will be looking at building on their performances in the upcoming Scottish Premiership campaign. They finished 3rd last season, which is very much best of the rest in that division. Another 3rd place alongside success in one of the cups would make for a successful campaign.
