Celtic knocked out of Champions League: Fans respond

Celtic's Champions League hopes ended in the second qualifying round for the second consecutive year as they were beaten in extra time by Denmark's Midtjylland.

Defensive frailties cost them again as Awer Mabil levelled before Onyedika pounced to leave Celtic floored and bound for the Europa League.

Former Celtic forward Chris Sutton spoke on Premier Sports about the result and performance.

This is what the fans are saying:

One Celtic fan on the Green Brigade forum gave his thoughts on a poor night for Celtic. Many other Celtic to various other forums and social media platforms to criticise the overall running of the club. Many fans were upset that they didn't win the magical 'Ten In A Row' and this anger has built-up into the new season.

  • No leadership on the park. McGregor is never a Celtic captain.
  • We need two experienced hard men in the middle of the park. Ferguson and Mooy would do the trick.
  • Bain was very good. No.1 goalkeeper now.
  • Edouard should be sold now. He is an empty jersey.
  • Ajeti should be given his chance to lead the line now.
  • Earlier substitutions needs to be made in the future. Ideally at half time.
  • Abada should have remained on the park. Forrest is abysmal.
  • Sign Nisbet to replace Edouard.
  • Turnbull does not offer enough. Robertson should get his chance.
  • Dane Murray was immense. What a find.

This video from Celtic Fans TV also offered some analysis.

Another fan commented: "That performance tonight makes me glad I didn’t renew my season ticket. No blame on Ange tonight or any of those lads on the park tonight.

"That result is on the complete mismanagement and total acceptance of mediocrity of the board. We will be lucky, within the next couple of seasons, to get close to Rangers."

Thoughts of the manager

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou shared his disappointment at the loss to Midtjylland with Premier Sports. The result apparently doesn't change his thoughts on the plan for the club's future He said: "It's just the beginning of what we're trying to embark on...bringing success again to the club."
